Route Notes High point on NW Ridge. C4 established in difficut, dangerous conditions: loose snow. 29th Kennard and others unable to get up on to ridge and bivouacked at 5800m on 30th. Had only 2 days really on mountain, which is very long way from BC. Left BC 5th Nov. Intention to climb South Peak, which had not been scaled. Appeared to be no other route than this NW approach. Established BC (4040m) - 18th Oct C1 established (4600m) same as Swiss - 20th Oct C2 " (4200m) Changda Khola - 23rd Oct C3 " (5000m) near Swiss pt - 25th Oct Steve Powers, Dove Naylor recce to approx 5600m on NW Ridge - 27th Oct. C4 established (approx 5900m) by Gombu Sherpa and Tenzi Sherpa - 28th Oct NW Ridge of Swiss "Sisne North" Biv by Garry Kennard, Steve Powers, Dave Naylor at approx 5800m - 29th Oct Steve Powers, Dave Naylor, Gombu Sherpa spend night at C4. Garry Kernard descends to C3 - 30th October Decision to abandon climb 30th Oct. Climbers descended 31st Oct to C3. Loose and unconsolidated powder snow on loose rock and very low temperatures forced retreat (temperature at C3 midday -10 degrees approx temperature at biv -20 degrees).
