Route Notes Nishino - 24 Nov 72 Climbed Kande Hiunchuli from southwest on 18 Oct by Kuwahata and Hirota. Difficult snow face, very steep. 4 high camps with highest about 6200m (altimeter out of order). Previous parties were weaker than present team on Kande Hiunchuli Most difficult between C2 and C3 snow face very difficult. Summit reached 18 Oct; left C4 6 am and reached top 9 am. Planned all members go to summit but were 1st year students of Himalayas and decided leave it to others. Shibata had become snowblinded on 16th between C3 and C4 making route to C4 and took off goggles while smoking cigarette, thus snowblinded for 1 day: good medicine in C3 and stayed in C3. No accident or other illness and frostbite. Nishino and Hirota arrive today ex-Jumla; others trekking and arrive 10 Dec. Shrestha, MFA - 27 Oct 72 Patrasi 2 members climbed 18 Oct: Shigeru Kawahata and Toyokazu Hirota All returned base 20 Oct Nishino & Shibata - 29 Aug 72 4 Japanese and 1 Sherpa Kande Hiunchuli in Patrasi Himal Leave KTM by air to Jumla about 15 Sept. Wait KTM for monsoon end. Caravan about 8 days Jumla->BC, so reach BC about 25 Sept. Summit attack about 15 Oct.
