Route Notes BC at Pangpema ABC at junction Jonsong and West Langpo Glaciers C1 just beneath Jonsong La at east end of big snow basin High point at snow and ice wide open couloir. C2 was bivouac occupied one night only. On 15th 2 members up wide couloir to 6660m and then very heavy snowfall and 2-3 ft deep snow avalanches coming down so turned back and slept in C1 down a face. Next day to ABC and 17th to BC. 14 May left C1 at 1:00 am and ascended slowly because steepness and no place to biv till 6500m; 4 people left C1 and reached biv ledge where they slept: Aylward and Brogan, who went down next day (15 May) because were tired. No time to make another bid because had started from Kathmandu delayed by late-arriving cargo and had to leave BC on 22 May. Was much harder climb than expected and next time in 2000? will put in fixed ropes to C1, dump food and gear, go down and bring up more again.
