Route Notes Stephane Schaffter (from his web site): Our new attempt to complete the ascension of the south-eastern spur of this magnificent Nangpa La Valley pyramid was confronted with extremely dry conditions, the result of a Nepalese summer devoid of monsoon. I was personally forced to abandon once we'd reached base camp, my exercise-induced asthma prompted chronic bronchitis with the cold air, so I had to resign myself to leaving my five companion-guides on site. Motivated and inspired after having discovered a new, elegant traverse across the North Face of Jobo LeCoultre which was opened in 2009, Xavier, Mathieu, Philippe, Jerome and Pierre reached the central bastion under the summit chute before being forced to retreat. The conditions of the snow pack that was lacking in consistency created a highly-avalanche and dangerous obstacle. With energy at a peak and constantly on the outlook for a virgin traverse to conquer, it was finally on the Sengjya Nord 5797m that their determination was rewarded. A lightning ascent that reflected their enthusiasm. This exquisitely perfect traverse clearly offset the aborted attempt on Jobo Ringjang that has been taunting me since 2008.
