Route Notes The team was plagued by bad weather from 16 October, the day they arrived in Kathmandu to go to the mountain, when it was raining. So it was to be expected that when they reached French Pass on their approach march there was deep snow. They reached BC on the 26th, but they lost several days of climbing time waiting there until the 30th for the porters to arrive with their gear. They immediately set out to climb the mountain. All members except Lustermann arrived at C1 on the 30th. But that night there was heavy snowfall. They returned to BC on 31st and abandoned the climb. They had now run out of time. They left BC on 2 November to trek out by a route leading eastward to Kagbeni, but they retreated to BC on the 3rd because the trail across Dhampus Pass was impassable. They left via the main route to Marpha on the Kali Gandaki River. Lustermann did not participate in the climb to C1 because of serious pulmonary edema, which she had begun to develop on the trek to BC at Dhaulagiri BC; she arrived at Hongda BC a day after the rest of the team after bivouacking on the way on the 26th. She became very sick after crossing French Pass on the 27th and was evacuated from BC to Kathmandu on the 29th.
