Weather was good on summit day, however, the team experienced a lot of snowfall prior to the summit day. The prime reason for this expedition was to do medical research. The last camp was at such a high altitude because the medical team was still doing research up there. The summiters left at various times between 9 am and 3 pm. The way to the summit took an average of about one hour; the slope was about 40 degrees and there was potential avalanche danger; however, the snow condition proved good enough for the team to go for the summit. Some of the members stayed the night at C2 and some came directly down to BC (neither Kobler nor Hefti could verify who came down to BC and who stayed at C2). According to Kobler, some of the Sherpas and locals built new paths from BC to about 5800m as there was nothing. They and the Sherpas had to install 2500m of fixed rope to secure the climbers. The schedule was split into two waves separated by a period of bad weather which brought lots of snow that the 22 Sherpas and foreign mountain guides had to break to make the track for the second successful wave. On the latter wave, 69 members started on the 20th of October, reaching C1 or C2 and sleeping there. On the 21st of October, 30 members could reach C3, a high camp very close from the summit. On the 22nd, these same members reached the summit at 10 am from, then they went back to C2 the same day. The day after they went all back to the base camp. The 39 other members reached the same high point at each wave, all of them sleeping at C1 or C2 then go back to the BC the next day (on 8th and 9th of October, then on the 20th of October). If the team's doctors expected a better result for them as well on the second wave, however it seems that these members hadn't enough time recover from their first attempt to be able to climb further to the top. Huber and Lanzi didn't intend to climb. Karl Kobler stayed at the base camp during this expedition and will remain there to look after Andreas Neuschmid's next expedition on the same mountain. Urfer reached base camp and never climbed further; feeling sick (respiratory problems, HAPE), he had to be heli-rescued from the BC and didn't come back to it. Heynen got pulmonary embolism and had to be heli-rescued from BC to Kathmandu.
