Route Notes The summit party left C3 on 27 October at 4:00 am. They were Hiraoka, Izumi, Saito, Sakai, Takiguchi and Wariishi, plus Angdu, Nawang Kalden, Phur Temba and Sonam Finjo. Wariishi turned back after gaining only 200 meters because he had lost all feeling in his fingers. He returned to C3 that day, and on the 29th he took a helicopter to Kathmandu. Ms. Saito, who was tired and too slow, turned around at 6800m at 2:00 pm and got back to C3 at 6:00 pm. The other four members reached the summit at varying times. The first was Sakai, who was on the top at 3:00 pm. then came Izumi at 4:00 pm and Hiraoka and Ms. Takiguchi at 5:00 pm; Ms Takiguchi was a slow climber, so Hiroaka stayed with her. Ms. Takiguchi descended to C3 at 10 pm. The other three summiting members went down to C2 at 11:00 pm. All were back in BC on the 28th. All four Sherpas in the summit party reached the top. The only member who did not attempt the summit was Fujita, the team's oldest member. On 20 October he climbed up to 6300m, but returned to BC the same day. His fingers were swelling while he descended from C2 on his acclimatization rotation. The next day, he helicoptered to Kathmandu and returned to Japan.
