| Route Notes | Team first attempted Gangapurna West (Asapurna) and reached to within 100m of the top. Team turned back due to altitude sickness of Park. From AAJ (via Rodolphe Popier): 05 Oct: left BC, up via a glacier, then a SSW facing spur to a 5806m bivouac. 06 Oct: steep snow plus some seracs, bivouac at 6200m, below the upper South Face. 07 Oct: attempt through complicated glacier terrain, back to same 6200m bivouac. 08 Oct: left at 1:30 am to climb the steep S Face. Not far below the summit ridge, Jung-Yong decided to stop and wait for the return of his team mates. Choi Suk-Mun and Kim Chang-Ho climbed three pitches further onto the ridge, but with the top only 100m away and their companion not with them, decided instead to go back down. Rappeled the face down to their bivouac that day. |
