| Route Notes | BC south of Gangapurna on moraine of east branch of Modi Khola. 2nd C1 on morning of 11 Oct 5 people in camp when huge avalanche buried camp and occupants Cox, Coons, Hazebrouck, King and Tompkins. Tompkins' tent ripped open and got out and rescued his wife Coons. King cut his tent open and stuck hard out above snow. Cox and Hazebrouck sharing tent and Cox turning blue as he was pulled out after only 4 minutes had struck. No permanent harm done, but all 3 tents destroyed and geared mostly buried beyond salvaged. All come down to Australian Annapurna III C3 and stayed there 2 nights unti could safely reach BC, which did through hip and shoulder-deep snow at dusk on 13th. |
