Route Notes C1 at North Col. 27 May 1st summit attempt by Wheelock, Orono, Vallejo and Fura Dorje: 2 Latin men at 1:00 and Wheelock and Sherpa 1:20-1:30 am. Reached top at 12:25 pm. Wheelock and Fura Dorje slept in C3 where arrived 7:00 pm; Orono on C3 6:00 pm and stayed there. Vallejo went to C2 where arrived 6:00 pm. 28 May 2 Finns left C4 about 7:00 am and on top about 8:00 am and down to C2 at about 3:00-4:00 pm Fura Dorje, 32, Sotang, Solukhumbu, Everest X2 times before This party climbed separately from Russians and Bulgarian, Russell Brice confirmed 9 June 99. Note: Russian and Bulgarian leadership of International Everest: Expedition insisted this party and four-member Russian-Bulgarian party were all one expedition who ate and climbed together, but they could not say when the Latins reached C1 and C2. The Latins insisted that they never climbed with Russians and Bulgarian; they had their own tents, food and Sherpas. One Finn, Mankinen, was supposed to climb with Russians and Bulgarian but actually climbed with the Latins.
