Route Notes ABC on Rongbuk Glacier 30 minutes below start of face C1 at ridge/rib left of Japanese Couloir (1 tent) High point at top of Japanese Couloir. 1st 1300m of face all ice very steep and no place for camp - 1300m fixed rope ABC to C1; almost every afternoon snowfall and took long time to fix rope. 14 May reached highest point at 7500m and on 15th accumulated snow started avalanching. After 15 May waited 3-4 days to decide about going on and 18 May 2 members went to 7500m to see situation and found much dangerous snow (possible slab avalanche) so face climb finished.
