Sherpas: Kami Rita, 28, Thami, Everest X2 Dorje, Taksindu/Nunthala, Solu, 31, Everest X2 Fura Dorje, Sotang, Solu, 32, Everest X1 Singaporean Mountaineers Scale Everest By Elizabeth Hawley Kathmandu, May 25 (Reuters) - The first Singaporean expedition to Mount Everest succeeded in sending two of its members to the highest point on earth this morning, the Nepalese tourism announced today. The successful summiters were Singapore residents Swee Chiow Khoo, 33-year-old airline systems analyst for an airline, and Cheok Wai Edwin Siew, 28, outdoors activities instructor. (Khoo and Siew are their family names). Both are Malaysian citizens. Only two other Malayasians have ever been to the 8848 meters high (28,028 ft) summit of Everest before them. (No Singapore citizen has yet summited Everest.) The ministry reported that the summit pair left their highest camp at 7900 meters (26,000 ft) at 9:30 last night, climbed through the night and reached the top of the world at 6:00 am today. They stayed on the summit for an hour and then descended to the last camp, where they arrived at noon today. Their climbing route was the standard one via the southeast ridge. Their agent in Kathmandu understands that no one else on their team will try to reach the summit, and they will arrive back in Kathmandu on 31 May or in the very firsts days of June. The leader of the eight-member expedition is David Lim, 33, a multimedia marketing executive who is also Malaysian.
