| Route Notes | C2 at North Col. De Choudens, Cagnin and Sherpa Ang Phurba left C2 for summit at 11:00 pm of 7 May. Sherpa turned back at about 8600m because tired and had trouble with technical problem between First and Second Steps. 2 French reached top 8 May 10 at 10:30 am NST, first people on summit that day. Had put tent at C2 on 27 April but immediately down to BC for rest. 8 May summiters reached ABC safely but very tired and at 7800m wind and snow blew up; 7:00 pm in ABC. Cagnin left his son's baby shoes on summit. Cagnin used oxygen from 8700m to top and down to 8650m. Vasilev and Van Waes moved up to C2 on 18th. 19th Van Waes descended but Vasilev made C3 at 8200m alone and next day left C3 at 7:00 am and to summit alone at 1:30 pm; he was 300-400m behind a group of Russians or Kazakhs, who were still on top when he arrived in fine weather. |
