| Route Notes | C1 at top of Icefall C2 in W Cwm C3 on SW Face High point at below Couloir. The four Tamangs reached site for C4 at 7800m on 26th April, but camp never slept in. Leader Neby was in C2 that day, had been to C3 on 22nd. Climb abandoned because Neby received [fax] message at BC that Neby's daughter was seriously ill and he rushed to Norway and climb finished. Dawa Tamang summited SW Face with Koreans on 14 Oct 95. Goren Kropp, Swedish Everest South leader 31 May 96: a Danish member of Duff's expedition said stone fell on Neby's helmet and damaged it - "this thing of his daughters illness came very conveniently so I am a little bit doubtful about it" - no fax at Swedish BC - Neby Duff - 30 May 96 Considerable rock fall on SW Face perhaps encouraged Neby's departure. |
