| Route Notes | C1 in Icefall C2 in Western Cwm C3 on Lhotse Face High point at South Col. Went to BC slowly to acclimatize and went to Kalapattar; did not sleep at S Col: "many many wind, no good place." Japanese stayed there but Indonesians not acclimatized well enough and Sherpas had headaches so slept in C3. Stayed there in C2 2 nights and 8th Oct up to C3 but 9th down because not enough oxygen left, members tried so went to BC and climb finished because members had no strength for another attempt. British and French expedition's leaders and summiter of Japanese team very much doubt Indonesians got to S Col but are confident their Sherpas did. British said Sherpas reported their "clients" turned back at C3. |
