Route Notes BC at road C1 at East Rongbuk Glacier C2 at East Rongbuk Glacier C3 at East Rongbuk Glacier C4 at North Col C5 on North Ridge High point on North Face just below 1st Step. Weather deteriorated very badly after mid-May, but before that winds were strong. Finally 28th May Anderson & Teare left C5 at 11 pm in desperate bid to reach summit without making C6 but found snow conditions that stopped them: they were setting off slab avalanches & knee deep or more snow making progress slow. Reached 8200m that day at 6 am, having used up already half of oxygen they had with them & probably 10 hrs more climbing to top. Now time finished: yaks arriving at ABC 29-30 May. High point was near traditional location of C6. Had had 2 summit bids but no higher than C5 because of fierce winds.
Accidents Forrest with intestinal illness, left Apr 12; two Sherpas with bleeding ulcers at ABC
