Route Notes C2 at top of Icefall C4 at South Col (placed but slept in only on 12 May). Arrived at C4 for summit bid 12 May. 3 members stayed 2 nights but winds discouraged them from making progress. 13th May went only 100m up in 45 minutes & back to C4 thought to leave again at 11 pm but 9:30 pm snow began falling and then winds came up so stayed in C4 that night and went down next day; met 2 others below C4 and they turned around and all 5 descended to C2. Now attempt abandoned: no strength to mount another attack. These in C4 went down because feared altitude sickness if stayed 2 more nights so high. Kitchen boy Subba Singh Tamang died of heart attack at BC 11th May. Never went above BC (was 43 years old). Ministry of Tourism said he came from Sigadi, Thulo Parisad village developement committee, Kavre district. South Col reached: 26 Apr by Irola and Murua 28 Apr by Nima, Kunga and Pasang Sherpa 12 May by Criado, A. Solla and L. Solla
