Route Notes C3 on Lhotse Face C4 at South Col (occupied 2nd Oct) High point at South Summit. Pitched C4 29 Sept and down same day to C2 for 2-3 days rest. Up to C4 on 2 Oct. 3rd Oct C4 to South Summit, where Irureta's oxygen finished. Left C4 2 am, arrived S Summit 11:30 am, now problem with Irureta's O2 regulator and Valencia summit party decided to turn back here (had left C4 earlier than Basques) so both Basques also turned back: Bereziartua could not go on up the Hillary Step alone in snow on route and techinical difficulty. Back to C4 and down to BC where all members and Sherpas are now on 4th Oct. 7 Oct 5 members and 4 Sherpas up to C2; 8th too much wind. Oct 9th to C3, wind and again to C2 (wind blowing snow). 13th Oct finally all down from C2 to BC and climb finished. Left BC 14th Oct.
