Route Notes Chinese BC 28 Aug Intermediate ABC under Changtse and under North Col. Group that had accident were fixing ropes to N Col at 6900m; in group were 5 men Gomez-Menor, Scaldo, 3 Nepalis; Gomez-Menor and Ang Sona were highest fixing ropes and those below did not see how avalanche started but it carried men 200m to crevasse with these 3 lost; fell into very deep crevasse with much snow on top of them; very hard for survivors who saw ropes going into crevasse and they tried to dig; expedition decided to stop climb: snow conditions bad and big emotional distress (could see ropes leading to dead men) and to change route would mean big problem with liaison officer. Left ABC 22 Sept and had to spend 3 days to get injured 2 men (Spaniards deep cut in bottom from ice as and rib broken and had inhaled snow; Chowang Rinzi Sherpa had inhaled snow and pulled knee and ankle ligaments, plus shock). All members to ABC except doctor; only 2 above ABC (those hit by avalanche on 1st day venturing above ABC). Official documents say fatal accident occurred on 14th because of confusion.
Accidents Doctor had cerebral edema at BC; 3 killed and 2 hurt in avalanche
