| Route Notes | BC at normal site C1 in Western Cwm C2 on Lhotse Face High point on SE Ridge. Left BC 26th Sept (all 4 French, summit bid by Escoffier and other 3 to C2). Escoffier to C3 at 5:00 pm taking tent, food, fuel, etc. 27th 1:30 am left and reached S Col 4:30 am with sleeping bag, gas and little food, stayed in Swiss tent and started up at 6:00 am after 3 Swiss members had started up at 4:00 am and caught up with others at 8400m and continued to where route reached ridge. Wind very strong. Escoffier descended to C3 at 4 pm same day. 28th took most of day to reach C2 in strong wind and 29th to BC in deep snow. Early Oct Escoffier with some Swiss members to C2 but to BC next day because of snow. Escoffier again with Pierre Beghin 13th Oct, got to C3 14th Oct, terrible winds and 15th down to BC. 21st down to BC due to wind. Left BC on 22nd to KTM. Had ordered yaks for departure. Escoffier had parachute but wind conditions prevented its use. |
