Letter from Tsunemichi Ikeda, Editor in Chief - Nov 11, 1985 It was the 11-member party, led by Tsuneo Hasegawa, to make a dual ascent by North Face and NE Ridge. The leader Hasegawa intended a solo on N Face while the others siege NE Ridge. The latter party was expected to support the leader's descent from the summit. They made a rapid progress and made C5 at 7750m and ropes were fixed up to 8200m by Sept 10th. But on 17th, Shinichi Ishii (37), a photographer and a climber of the NE Ridge party avalanched when he was descending from North Col. His body could not be found. The whole plan was abandoned by the accident and bad weathers.
