Route Notes M.S. Kohli - 21 June 65 Indian Everest Expedition press conference. Earliest in list of Everest: South Col route operated 13th April. After abortive attempt of end April, 3 weeks period of not one good day; by 14th May improved and started going up weather held good except for same return journeys from summit; all summiters took pix including same Cine. All members remarkably fit; all fit to go to summit; all fit to go to summit, which had not planned for in oxygen supplies. End of April summit party: Captain Cheema Gambu Sonam Wangyal Sonam Gyatso Major BP Singh was 1 of 5 members last summit party; dropped out because of stomach trouble. No frostbite cases Only evidence of earlier expeditions on summit: Americans pole and 6 feet rope probably Swiss. NE Ridge last few hundred feet look "extremely difficult, rather impossible" from summit. Wanted get maximum of people on summit so didn't try West Ridge. Kohli went to South Col on 1st attempt in support; this his highest point because this abortive attempt used oxygen; so to conserve oxygen and since communication good stayed at advance base; leader does not normally put self in summit parties especially on Everest such problems 10 members had been on Everest before. No sign of Yeti; rather doubtful to consider existence of snow; does not exist; useless to make further expeditions to search for it. Sex impulse felt at South Col. One day perhaps women will also climb Everest. Sonam Gyatso's prayer flags to stop snow and wind successful because expedition successful and all back safely.
