Route Notes 23 June 1962 W Sayre arrived 3:50 Shanta Bhawan [Hospital]; will stay the night. Sayre: Sorry to cause so much trouble. The others are in better shape than I - I all night except my energy is nil. It was a st but my days are over. Hart had concussion. Dhyrenfurth: Others waiting to be collected tomorrow 6 am (Swiss may stay on with Germans); left camp time above ice flow. Then left liaison officer and 2 Sherpas; had 30-40 days food to about May 6th. Weren't lost but lot of traversing. Changed original plans, tried another route but still had to withdraw and then he'd several falls which weakened him. When returned to C2 found food had been evacuated and thus almost starved crawling on hands and knees to Khumjung. Sayre suffers complete exhaustion. All reached Khumjung yesterday, Sayre reached Namche yesterday or today. Narendra Bikram Shah - 20 June 1962 Arrive Bisak 20th (May 2nd); all 3 Americans and 1 Swiss left base camp and liaison officer and Sherpas and since then not heard from; had 20 days rations only. Told liaison officer wait at Namche checkpost. 9 June not able to go search because of bad weather. Report from Namche Checkpost to KTM Ministry received 20 June. Base camp = Gyachung Kang Early report re 2nd camp possibly true Sherpas have also return to Namche.
