| Route Notes | The Brazilians from 8K Expeditions climbed with the Brazilians from Himalayan Ascents. They reached 8400m of 22 May, but retreated due to high winds. Report from Marcelo Segovia: Approach: Pangboche, Lobuje BC 30/04 5350m C1 -- 6000m C2 03/05 6440m C2 20/05 7100m Hpt 23/05 8350m by Segovia First rotation, Segovia climbed to C2 from BC in 6-1/2 hours. On 05/05, he climbed to 7400m and slept at C2 for another night. Back to BC on 06/05. On 07/05, he walked to Pheriche in 2:20 hrs for one night and returned to BC on 08/05. On 09/05 he climbed to C2. Stayed for two nights. On 11/05 he climbed straight to C4 and returned to C2 in 9:45 hrs. The weather would have been perfect for a non-02 ascent, but he was still acclimatizing. On 12/05 he returned to BC. For his summit push, he left BC on 19/05 to C2. On 20/05 C3. 21/05 C4. The weather was too windy to attempt without O2. He stayed the night at C4. He left C4 at 9 pm on 22/05. The weather was still bad, and when he reached 8350m (Balcony) at 12:30 am on 23/05 he started to use oxygen which his Sherpa (Sonam) gave him. He continued for another half an hour. He then decided that the weather was too bad and returned to C4 where he arrived at 1:40 am. When he arrived at C4 he felt suddenly bad and found it hard to breathe and his lungs were aching. He managed to sleep a bit but was very worried about his health. At 8 am, he descended to C2 with oxygen in 3-1/2 hours. He managed to sleep there and descended to BC without oxygen on 24/05. Left BC on 25/05. Oxygen: Taken from 8350m to C2 by Segovia; C3 to high point to C3 by Sonam. |
