| Route Notes | Report from Orianne Aymard: Approach: Pangboche, Lobuje, Everest BC BC 20/04 5350m C1 25/04 6000m C2 26/04 6440m C3 14/05 7100m C4 15/05 7900m Smt 17/05 by Aymard and Dawa at 6:45 am. On 27/04, AD Dawa Sherpa and Aymard touched the lower C3 for acclimatization purposes. On 28/04, they descended to BC. In the middle of the icefall, there was a huge noise and Aymard crouched down to protect herself. She was hit in her left cheek by a serac. When she realised what happened, Dawa was looking for her and got her up as he was worried that more seracs would come down. They descended to BC and she was evacuated to Lukla, where she went to hospital and on 29/04 she came to CIWEC where she had scans on her cheek. Nothing was broken but she had a big hematoma. She stayed for three nights at the hospital and then moved to hotel. She flew back to BC on 07/05. On 11/05 Dawa and Aymard ascended to C2, where they stayed for two nights. On 14/05, they ascended to C3 and 15/05 to C4. They spent two nights at C4 and left at 7 pm on 16/05. They spent about five minutes on the summit and descended to C4 where they spent another night. The route was very crowded. On 18/05, the started their descent to C2 and at the end of the Yellow Band, she had to down-climb a wall and she fell and hit the ground with her left foot. She told Dawa that she was in a lot pain. She was just passing the dead body of Phurba Sherpa and Dawa Sherpa did not wait for her. She met Nima Sherpa of 8K who helped her down to C3 where she saw Dawa. She radioed Lhakpa, the owner of 8K who told her that rescue was not possible from C3 and that she had to go down to C2. However, she was very exhausted, but descended to C2 with Dawa where they arrived at 10:30 pm. When she removed her boot she saw that the foot was swollen and blue and that she had frostbite on three fingers. On 19/05 she was evacuated by helicopter from C2 to Kathmandu where she was admitted to the CIWEC clinic. She will stay at the clinic until 22/05 and then go to back to France. Accidents: Fall on Yellow Band Oxygen: Taken and used from C3 to top to C4 by Aymard; from C4 to top to C3 by Sherpa. |
