Route Notes From Climbalaya FB page: Update from base camp 28 May 2021 @ 10am: Heavy snow at base camp and above. As reported Cyclone Yaas is going to hit the Everest regions for another 2 days and weather opening above camp 2 is expected tomorrow. How the conditions are for a safe climbing above camp 2 will have to be accessed. Matt, Emil, Nima, Christine, Pascal, Yves and our Sherpa team are waiting at camp 2 and are healthy and in good spirits. 29-05-21: Due to the heavy snowfall for the past few days , we have accessed that there will be high risks in continuing our climb above camp 2. In this regard, we announce the cancellation of our summit bid and also the end of the expedition. Climbing members are currently descending to base camp and are all safe. This is sad and unfortunate and a difficult decision to make, but keeping the lives of our clients and Sherpas safe will always remain our top priority. From Emil Neszmelyi report: Expedition high point for members reached on 11/05 by Neszmelyi, Magoffin, Nima Doma and Nima Tenzing Sherpa. The Indian Cyclone made unexpected weather change and avalanches. Also icefall doctors kept in secret that they will not close icefall on 31 May, but will stay until 4 June. Therefore we started summit push too early.
