Route Notes BC 16/04 5700m ABC 29/04 6400m C1 01/05 7000m C2 21/05 7700m C3 22/05 8300m Smt 23/05 by both members and two Sherpas: Uphadyaya and Funaru Sherpa at 5:15 am and Joisher and Mingma Tenzing Sherpa at 5:30 am. Upadhyaya left C3 at 8 pm and Joisher an hour later, because he moved more quickly and was more experienced, having already climbed Everest from the south. After 3rd Step Upadhyaya stopped for one hour because it was still dark and he wanted to be on the summit at sunrise. Joisher caught up and they arrived on the summit a short time apart. They stayed on the summit about 15 minutes as the summit was getting crowded by then. On the descent they were caught in a storm not far above C3 which resulted in some snowblindness in one eye for Upadhyaya - he wears glasses and had to take them off in order to see as they were being coated with snow. Joisher got back to C3 at 12 pm and Upadhyaya at 1 pm. At 3 pm they left for C2 and spent the night there. Then descended to ABC on the 24/05 and left BC on 27/05. Climbalaya managed BC and ABC, but above that it was Satori and they supplied the Sherpas. Oxygen: Joisher started using at C1 and Uphadyaya at about 7300m, to the summit and back to C1. Sherpas used oxygen from C2 to summit and back to C2.
