Route Notes This was a research expedition. Team walked in via the Zatra La, climbed Mera Peak, went back via the Zatra La, Gokyo, Cho La and then EBC. The aim of the research to study climate change and the effect it has on the local people and the fauna. It is a repeat study of John All’s study in 2009 and 2010. There were also students of Tribuvhan University on the research trip. Dhruba Bista who was with the Everest team was at C4 waiting for the Lhotse team as he was intending to climb Everest on 24/05. When they came back Dhruba Bista was feeling bad and had abandoned his attempt to climb Everest. On 24/05, the whole team including Dhruba went down to C3 and when Dhruba sat down to have a rest he closed his eyes and never woke up. All was already on his way to C2 when he died. On 26/05 back to BC. Morgan and Holmes intended Everest; John All, Graham Wickowski and Chris Dunn intended to climb Lhotse. Holmes reached C3 (7100m) on 21/05. He was on his summit push for Everest, but decided to abandon due to asthma and bronchitis. He could not breathe and descended to C2. He was picked up from C2 by helicopter and was taken to Lukla hospital. Morgan Scott reached 6800m at the bottom of the Lhotse Face on 8/05. He had upper respiratory infection and abandoned expedition. Dhruba Bista was not really a high-altitude worker. He got a good deal with the company, but he basically attempted Everest as a client.
