Route Notes Summit team left at 7:30 pm from C4, very windy cold. 5 set off together (Hollis, Magitsis, Akkad, Anastasopoulou, Devi, then Dawa Steven + 2 Chinese followed (3rd Chinese returned from C3 or C4). Knee-high snow from the Balcony, difficult to walk and break the trail, so Pemba Tshering and Hollis broke the trail. Akkad had mask problems with his beard (Akkad's Sherpa was Samden Bhote; everyone said he was the best out of the whole team). Further details of climb from Hollis: On 20/05 started at 8 pm from C4; it was quite windy. Probably 20 climbers ahead. Nick and Pemba Tshering passed them in about 1.5 hrs, breaking the trail. Snowed-over trail, powdery, was hard; had to pull out ropes up over the snow. On the Balcony did an O2 change and waited for other teams to help break trail. Upon seeing others weren't in good shape to do so, Nick and Pemba pushed on ahead themselves. Dropped down from South summit and did an O2 change. Nick was waiting for the famous Hillary Step section. Getting up to the South Summit with the steep rock section turned out to be more difficult than the Hillary Step, which he ended up not even noticing on the way up, it was so insignificant, and suddenly they were at the summit. This is Nick's first attempt. He had some mask issues, ice blocked it, a bit frightening. Hollis reached summit on 21/05 at 4:55 am just as it was getting light. His vision was cloudy so descended right away. Spent less than 10 mins on summit. Akkad arrived at 5:24 am, Anastasopoulou just behind a couple of seconds. 15 minutes on summit. Devi with Sherpa summited at 5:58 am, stayed on the summit for 20 minutes. They had started from C4 at 8:30 pm. Back to C4 at 9 am. Very windy and cold on summit day, not good weather. Magitsis abandoned climbed at 4:30 am at South Summit due to frozen air valve on mask (not able to breathe). Tshering Tashi descended ith him. Hollis got to C4 with vision problems. Lay down for 2.5 hrs. Then eyes got a little better and pushed down (still 21/05) and made it to C2 by 5 pm. 22/05 left C2 at 8am descended to BC. Akkad arrived back at C4 at 11:30 am, took one hour rest, then 12:30 pm went to C2 arriving at 9:30 pm. Stayed one night in C2 and 22/05 to BC. 21/05 Magitsis arrived back at C4 at 7 am and Anastasopoulou at around 11 am. Then they both went straight down to C2 alone without Sherpas. They had problems with Sherpas who didn't follow them. Slept on the rocks in down suits in tents and later at around 9 pm both their Sherpas arrived with sleeping bags, etc. 22/05 everyone went to BC. On 23/05 team heli to Pheriche, to Lukla then to KTM. Other details of the rest of the team provided by Hollis: Magitsis from Greece used O2 from C3; he did not summit. Clay (Indian from UK) arrived late to BC, went on rotation to C2 and heli-vaced out back to Ktm way before summit push. Randolph (from USA) also came in late and got altitude sickness at Lobuche, so he was evacuated early. Anita Devi details: BC 26/04 5350m C1 29/04 5800m (only 1 night) C2 30/04 6500m C3 02/05 7030m (rotation from C3) C4 20/50 7090m (no night on C4 just rested some hours before summit push) Summit push: 17/05 from BC started at 3 am to C2, 1 day rest 19/05 went to C3 at 5 am 20/05 at 6 am went to C4, arrived 1 pm, rested; then 8 pm for summit push 21/05 at 5:58 am arrived at the summit with Sonam Chhiring Dawa Steven Sherpa details: Dawa Steven plus 4 Sherpas working with Samir Jung Thapa (photographer). Dawa Stevem and Samir worked together filming and cleaning. Summit push: night of 20/05 at 8:30 pm (no traffic jam). Summit on 21/05 at 7:30 am by Dawa Steven; Samir was a little ahead at around 7 am. Dawa was on summit for 1 hour. Samir about 2 hours taking photos. After the summit spent another night in South Col and did some cleaning up. Left for C2 on the 22/05. Back to BC on: 23/05 Sherpas: Dawa Furi Sherpa Guru Jenjen Bhote Karma Chhiri Sherpa Da Jangbu Sherpa Samir and Dawa Steven left BC by heli on 25/05. This is the date that the last of the Asian Trekking Sherpas came through the icefall, cleared everything; the last of the load carrying Sherpas came through, all AT expeditions finished. Bhawna Dehariya, Vipin Chaudhary and Bharat Sharma details: BC 14/04 5364m C1 26/04 5900m C2 27/04 6440m 1st rotation C2 08/05 6440m 2nd rotation, then back to BC on 10/05 C2 18/05 6440n 3rd rotation for summit push C3 20/05 7100m C4 21/05 7900m Smt 22/05 at 9:40 am On 21/05 left C4 8 pm. Dehariya's oxygen regulator leaked on the Balcony so she had to wait for an hour. She ended up using her Sherpa's (Sonam) regulator and he told her to push on. He managed to fix the regulator and joined her half an hour later. They both summited together and spent 10 minutes on the summit. Descent: Cloudy, windy, after Hillary Step. By the Yellow Band there was a white out until C4. Dehariya and her Sherpa stayed at C4. Dehariya did not have enough O2 (0.8, only 20%). She fell asleep and woke up with zero O2 and managed to change the bottle. However she was not provided with enough O2 that night. She requested the Indian army team's Sherpa leader to bring a bottle of oxygen for her. Upon getting it, it was not full (just at 150). 23/05 Dehariya descended to C3 and changed another cylinder (at 100), then continued to C2 and stayed the night. 24/05 10 am Dehariya could not stand on her left leg, it was numb. She took painkillers. After 1 hour she felt better and walked down to BC. Dehariya back to BC on 24/05. Heli'd out from BC on 25/05 at 3 pm. Vipin Chaudhary and Bharat Sharma summited just before Dehariya on 22/05 and descended directly to C2. Descended to BC on 23/05. Heli'd out to KTM on 24/05, a day ahead of Dehariya.
