Route Notes BC 16/04 5350m C1 -- 5900m C2 23/04 6440m C3 -- 7000m C4 14/05 & 23/05 7900m Smt 24/05 by Lhakpa Dendi at 10 am, Tenji, Pimba and Griffith at 10:15 am. Team left C4 at 11 pm. It was very windy and Griffith was very worried about the wind. Straightforward climb. Tenji was very quick at the beginning and at about 8400m he hit the barrier and slowed down. Thunderstorm going on far away and weather was generally bad. When they reached the South Summit, Griffith started to be worried about Tenji and as he thought that the summit would be farther away than it actually was, they decided that Tenji should use oxygen. They continued to the summit and spent about 10 minutes on the summit. They descended to C2, where they arrived at between 5 pm and 8 pm. On 25/05, down to BC. Left BC on 27/05. The team did not attempt to traverse to Lhotse. Sherpa: Lhakpa Dendi, Chheskam-2, Solu, 29/01/1988 Tenji Sherpa, Sanam, Gudel-4, 07/03/1992 Pimba Bhote, Hatiya-1, 17/06/71 (summited earlier with Tim Mosedale) Oxygen: Taken and used from C3 to top to C2 by Griffith From C4 to top to C2 by Pimba and Lhakpa Dendi From South Summit 8750m to top to C2 by Tenji From The Himalayan Times - 30 April 2019 Tenjing (Tenji) Sherpa, who was on Mt Everest last year with the Swiss alpinist [Ueli Steck], also decided to attempt to climb Mt Everest without using supplemental oxygen. “I want to dedicate my climb to Ueli,” he told THT from the base camp. Tenji said he would climb Mt Everest and traverse to Mt Lhotse without using oxygen. French climber Jonathan Griffith, along with three more climbing Sherpas, has been filming Tenji’s climbing activities.
