Route Notes On his summit push Strba left C4 on 19 May in the evening. He didn't reach the summit, but turned around at South Summit. On the descent he got into trouble. Strba had to spend the night on 20 May alone in the open at the Balcony. One foreign climber and one Sherpa found him at the Balcony next day and helped him down to C4. Support staff of Utmost Adventure applied first aid and gave him oxygen, but it was too late. Strba died on 21 May at 5 pm in C4. Strba had been climbing alone and without oxygen. Utmost Adventure provided BC, C1 and C2 support, after that Strba climbed unsupported. From Madison Mountaineering report (EVER-171-15): 21 May summit team, Brent Bishop and Tashi Sherpa left C4 at midnight. Bishop and Tashi encountered the Slovak climber Vladimir Strba, who was ataxic. They found him at about 3:30 am, roped him up and carried and dragged him down to C4. It took them about 5 hours. They put him into a tent and gave him an oxygen bottle and put it on 4 litres a minute. They also gave him dex. Rob Smith from Adventure Consultants then took over as Bishop and Tashi were exhausted and needed to rest. Strba died in the afternoon on 21 May. He was brought down to the bottom of the Lhotse Face and picked up by helicopter.
