| Route Notes | BC 17/04 5350m C1 21/04 6100m C2 22/04 6500m C3 18/05 7370m C4 19/05 7900m Smt 20/05 by Wood, Morton, Mingma Gyabu Sherpa at 9:45 am. Summit team left C4 at 11 pm on 19 May. When they left camp the wind dropped. Straightforward climb. They saw Roland Yearwood (the man who died) and overtook him just below the Balcony. They stayed about 10 minutes on the summit. Wood and Mingma descended to C3, where they arrived at 5 pm and Morton to C2 arrived at 9 pm. On the way down, Wood saw Yearwood above the Balcony sitting on a rock at about 11 am. Wood asked him whether he was Ok, and he said yes. He was just enjoying the view. 21 May all back at BC and left by helicopter the next day. Sherpa: Mingma Gyabu, Sakathum, Lelep-7, 16/05/1989 Oxygen: Taken and used from C2 to top to C2 by Wood, C3 to top to C2 by Morton; C4 to top to C4 by Mingma. |
