Route Notes BC 16/05 4900m IC 18/05 5750m ABC 20/05 6400m C1 -- 7000m (only had a drink at North Col) C2 21/05 7800m C3 22/05 8200m Smt 23/05 by Laemmle at 2 pm. Laemmle left C4 at 2 am on his own. There were bottlenecks on 2nd and 3rd Steps and below the summit, where he was held up. He was ascending and summiting without supplemental oxygen. He stayed half an hour on the summit, took off his gloves to send text messages and ring his girlfriend to propose to her. On his way down, he cut off old ropes and abseiled down the 3rd and 2nd Steps. He arrived at C3 at 9:30 pm. On 24 May Laemmle used supplemental oxygen as he wanted to prevent frostbite (he did not drink enough). It was half a bottle and he used it down to 7400m. He descended all the way to ABC on 24 May. Gruber reached C3 on 22 May but did not go for the summit due to cold; he descended to ABC on 23 May. Oxygen: Laemmle used medical oxygen from 8200m (C3) to 7400m on the descent; he reached the summit without using supplemental oxygen. Gruber did not use any oxygen.
