| Route Notes | The day before the deadly avalanche, the team (apart from Mix) went on an acclimatization hike through the icefall. They reached the football field and then went back to BC. Mix did not join the rest of the team as he had flown to Kathmandu for a few days. He needed good internet connection to send his PhD thesis to his university. When the avalanche hit, Benegas and three of his Sherpas were involved in the rescue efforts while Baumann, who is a physician, helped treating the injured people in the HRA clinic. The team did not consider carrying on as on 19 April Benegas realized that 200m of icefall were subject to great danger when he was searching for missing bodies. |
