Route Notes On the 18th of April, four Sherpas from this expedition carried loads to C1, dumped them there and returned to BC. Later that morning at 6:45 am, a fatal avalanche killed 16 Sherpas who were carrying loads in the Icefall for other teams. On the next day, the sirdar for this team, Nima Tashi, sent their four other Sherpas home to Pangboche and Phortse with instructions to stay there unless sent for. He himself went to climb nearby Lobuche East and when he came back to BC on the 22nd, he learned about the "impossible conditions" (according to Williams) imposed by some Sherpas (not from Khumbu) for the resumption of climbing, and he "didn't want any part of this threat" to other teams. He was concerned that these rebels would attack base camp staffs and even members of teams who attempted to go back up the mountain. Williams decided on the 23rd to cancel the climb, and everyone left BC on the 26th. The members flew from Namche Bazar to Lukla to Kathmandu by helicopter. The loads at C1 were abandoned. Sherpa: Nima Tashi, 4/4/60, Pangboche, Everest X8
