Route Notes Arnot was climbing with Pasang Lhamu Sherpa and the pair had initially planned to do Everest from both sides. After the avalanche happened, they aborted the climb on the 24th as it became clear to them that the politics of the situation weren't going to allow them to climb in a manner that would be rewarding or respectful to the local voices. Melissa Arnot by email: "I hate that the day occurred where we lost so many people, but I also don't think the icefall was more dangerous that day, the previous or the next day. It is dangerous we know this and I accept it. It seemed selfish to continue on, but it also seemed strange to stop all together." Arnold was involved in the rescue. On 18 April flew in the helicopter up the football field, where a patient was loaded on a sked in the helicopter. She went from there to the mid-accident site where she provided care for a second person who was evacuated shortly after. She stayed at the site for four hours, until everyone was clear. On 19 April she went up with 11 others to search for the missing people and dug out one who was found dead. She spent 4 total hours up there that day. Pasang Lhamu and Arnot left BC by helicopter on 24 April. In Kathmandu they tried to obtain a permit for the north side of Everest, but were unsuccessful. Sherpani: Ms. Pasang Lhamu, 10/6/84, Gumela, Chaurikharka, Khumbu
