Route Notes The expedition reached the summit via the South Col in three small groups on 19, 20 and 23 May. The first one managed to get to the top and back to C4 in reasonable times despite the traffic jams they encountered from the South Col, where they had their last camp, to the Balcony (8500m) and on the Hillary Step. Longacre, Pearson and Roskelley, plus Sherpas Sange and Thile Nurbu, left C4 for top at 8:00 pm on the 18th. Longacre was the first member to the top at 5:00 am of 19 May; the other two, Pearson and Roskelley, summited at 6:00 am. They went back to C4 for the night. Next up was Dixon without a Sherpa, who left C4 at 5:00 pm on the 19th, got to the summit at 7:00 am on the 20th and returned to C4 later that day. The final summiters were Lally, Smith and Witkowska with Jangbu and Mingmar. They left C4 at 8:00 pm on the 22nd and summited at 5:30 pm on 23 May. They went down in C4 to stay the night. The only member who did not go to the top was the leader, Mazur, who went no higher than C4 at the South Col. He had been to the summit a number of times and saw no point in going again now. All members used oxygen up from C3 to the top and down to C2. Their Sherpas used it up from C2 during their load-carrying period, and from C4 to the summit to C4 on their summit bids.
