Route Notes Oliani and Pemba left C4 for the top at 8:00 pm on the 16 May and reached the summit at 7:38 am on the 17th. They had to battle 65/mph winds in a temperature of minus 40 degrees. Oliani said she was able to stand up very little of the time; most of the time she bent over the fixed rope. Both of her cheeks were wind-burned, and one of her fingers was still numb four days after her summit day. Five of Pemba's fingers were also still numb. They descended to C2 on the 17th and to BC on the 18th. She took a helicopter from BC to Lukla on the 19th. Oliani used three bottles of oxygen on 16-17 May in her summit push. To make sure that she would reach the top, her teammate, Scott Simper, gave her his own extra cyclinder; he made no bid to gain the summit with her.
