| Route Notes | The Himalayan Ascent team out of three climbers, two (Townsden and St. Hill) started their summit push from C4 at 9 pm and another climber O'Connell left an hour later. O'Connell, Ngima and Mingma reached the summit at 6:30 am. They stayed on summit for 30 minutes. St. Hill had to turn around from the top of the Hillary step 8790m (5:50 am) and Townsden from South Summit 8770m (6:30 am) due to bad weather. O'Connell returned C4 at 10:30 am, St. Hill at 1 pm and Townsden at 7 pm very exhausted. Next day 14 May all went down to C2 and BC on 15 May. Mingma and Ngima are from Rolwaling. Excepts from Himalayan Ascent blog: 13 May 2013 First summits on Lhotse, summits on Everest and near summits! 13-05-13 1 pm Our teams had a successful morning. Young Chhiring picked up where the fixing team left off on Lhotse and fixed the last 300m of the summit blocks, and summited at 10.30 am this morning. Chris summited at 11.30 am with Lakpa and Pasang. We're proud of Chhiring for the first summit of the 4th highest mountain this season! Previously a monk and now a young guide, Chhiring has the luck of his uncle Lakpa's climbing genes. Great news on Everest too. The group set off at 9 pm last night under calm and cold conditions. Peter summited at 6.30 am with Nima and Mingma. Satisfied with their climbing success, Margaret and Warren gave the full summit a miss and turned around after the Hillary Step (8790m, ~5.50 am) and after the South Summit (8770m, ~6.30 am), respectively. A near summit indeed. Due to cloud cover, the sun was late arriving to warm up bodies. After climbing ~9 hr in cold conditions, our Sydney friends were missing warm Sydney beaches. Peter on the other hand is Irish (enough said). Margaret and Warren still climbed higher than any other mountain (K2 is 8611m)! Awesome effort. Both teams are heading back to Camp 4 to rest. 10 May 2013 It wasn't quite as hot today in the Western Cwm so the entire group made it to Camp 2 by morning tea. Speedy Warren and Peter were there for breakfast at 7.30 am! We have here: Warren climbing with Jangbu, Margaret with Ang Kaji and Dendi, Chris with Lakpa and Pasang, Peter with Mingma and Nima, Sumit and Chhiring. Everyone has had a well deserved nap, now they're just watching the weather above. |
