Kumar, one of the members of the State sponsored Mt Everest Expedition was dropped following controversy over selection, but later went on to scale the peak on his own. The Everester, Singh informed has also thanked the Chief Minister of Sikkim for his encouragement and all his seniors of All India Services of Sikkim Cadre who not only kept his moral high during the time of struggle but also helped him in getting a quick loan to arrange for his expenses when he was struggling for sponsors. The officer has started his mountaineering journey from Gangtok on April 6, and reached Kathmandu on the same day by road and airways. He was assisted in his expedition by the first Summit Agency of Nepal and its Director Mingma Sherpa. After competing administrative formalities and sorting out technical equipment for climbing at Kathmandu, he flied to Lukla, Nepal on April 9 and on the same day, started his journey on foot to reach base camp of Mt Everest on April 17 after 7 to 8 days of continuous journey on foot. After about three weeks of acclimatization scheduled above the base camp, he started the final expedition on May 15, 2013 to the highest peak and touched it on the morning of May 19. Ravindra, it is informed had done Basic Mountaineering courses as well as Advance Mountaineering Courses from Himalayan Mountaineering Institute Darjeeling and securing Grade "A" in both courses as a part of preparation for this expedition.
