Route Notes The expedition was led by Neeraj Rana, who runs an Indian adventure company, Ocean to Sky, but its membership was composed entirely of schoolboys from The Lawrence School, Sanawar. It was under the benevolent eye of the Nepalese army's Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Gavrav S. J. B. Rana, who had himself attended the school. (In addition, the fathers of two Lawrence schoolboys were on a permit for Nuptse so they could accompany their sons to C2; they did not attempt to climb Nuptse, which would have been too difficult technically.) With the schoolboys and Rana were eight Sherpas. The party arrived at BC on 18 April and spent a month acclimatizing, including a successful trip to the summit of Lobuche East on 2 May. Once the party actually started climbing Everest, they occupied one camp after the other almost daily and then summited. Rana and the schoolboys set out for the top on the 20th of May at 7:30 pm. They were Brar with Mingma Thinduk, Chahal with Mingma Dorchi, Grewal with Pasang Dorchi, Joneja with Ang Temba, Kaushik with Lhakpa, Singh with Ang Tendi, Sohal with Kalden Phura, and Rana with Ang Kami. Four of the climbers did not go all the way: Grewal got to 8200m, then had a chest pain so he and Pasang Dorchi turned back at about 10:00 pm. The Sherpa with Rana, Ang Kami, developed frostbite in his hands, and both men turned back at the South Summit at 6:50 am on 21 May. The remaining six members and their Sherpas reached the summit at different times, between 4:26 and 9:00 am on 21 May. They returned to C4 at different times, from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Oxygen was used by members from C3 to their high points and back to C3. Sherpas used it from C4 to high points to C4. Sherpas: Ang Kami, 27/5/87, Makalu-9, Kangch X1 Ang Temba, 31/8/79 Ang Tendi, 22/10/86, Waku-4, Solu, Manaslu X1 Kalden Phura, 27/2/87, Pangboche, Everest X2 Lhakpa, 25/12/91, Makalu-9, Everest X2, Makalu X1 Mingma Dorchi, 18/8/87 Mingma Thinduk, 22/2/84 Pasang Dorchi, 26/9/81
