Route Notes Everest Peace Expedition 2012: (from Asian Trekking website) It has been confirmed that Sanjay Pandit of Everest Peace Exp. 2012 and Pasang Namgyal Sherpa reached the altitude of 8445m but had to return down when a rock fell down and hit Sanjay. He sustained minor infuries and could not continue. He is now down safely in base camp and recovering quickly. By Hermanta Kafle, General Secretary NSJF, Annapurna Post KATHMANDU, May 21, 2012 - In only a matter of days Nepali ultra-runner Sanjay Pandit is expected to summit the earth's highest peak, Mount Everest. According to the team schedule Pandit will summit Everest on May 25 and unfurl the AIPS flag which has accompanied him and his team of experienced mountaineers currently at Base Camp. Pandit is in good company. 73-year-old Japanese woman Tamae Watanabe has just broken the world record for being the oldest female to conquer Mount Everest. On Saturday, May 19 Tamae Watanabe reached the 8848m peak of the world's tallest mountain after launching her assent Friday night from an altitude of 8300m. Sanjay Pandit's expedition is supported by the Nepal Sports Journalists' Forum (NSJF). President Niranjan Rajbanshi and General Secretary Hemanta Kafle handed over the AIPS and NSJF flags to Pandit in Kathmandu on Thursday, April 12. President Rajbanshi said: "AIPS is a top organization of world sports press and Pandit will be the first runner to take the AIPS flag to Everest. We are honoured and feel proud to take the AIPS flag to Everest." According to Arjun Kumar Kakshapati, the coordinator of Sanjay Pandit's Everest Expedition, Pandit will become the first Nepali athlete to conquer Everest once the expedition is completed. Pandit has run 2100 km in total, having already scaled the 6189-meter Island Peak in Nepal. Pandit - 3 March 2013 Climb abandoned on 25 May, due to hit by chunk of falling snow in left hand and torn off his down jacket. The hand was unbearably painful. Pandit and Pasang Namgyal Sherpa left South Col at 7:30 pm on 24 May; around 1 am on 25 May they reached at 8685m. Pandit was hit by chunk of falling snow then went down to South Col where they arrived at about 2:30 am. They went down to C2 and spent night. Next day 26 May went down to BC.
