| Route Notes | There was a long delay between establishments of C2 on 29 April and setting up of C3 on 20 May because the Chinese were late fixing the ropes above C2. Matter and his Sherpa, Pemba Nuru, left for the top on 20 May at 8:00 am (NST) and gained the summit at 5:50 am on the 21st. They did not return to C1 until 4:00 pm because of the number of very slow climbers on the ladder below the Second Step. They found a ladder 50 meters below the North Col, where C1 was located (as is customary). They were back in ABC on the 22nd and BC on the 24th, but had to wait for the yaks to bring down their gear from C1 and left BC only on the 27th. Matter used oxygen from C3 to the summit to 7600m in his descent to C1. Pema Nuru used it from C2 to the top to 7600m. Sherpa: Pema Nuru, 27/1/75 (14/10/2030), Jubing-7, Everest 22/5/10 |
