Route Notes High point at 7900m at C4 South Col. On Edurne Pasaban's return to Everest this time, her purpose was to scale the mountain without the use of any oxygen by her team. She was not successful. They pitched C4 on the South Col on 20 May with the intention that all four members and their three Sherpas would leave the Col for the summit that night at 10:00 pm. But a strong wind (about 50-60km/hr) was blowing across the upper reaches to the mountain, which prevented their moving up from the Col. They waited until 7:00 am the next morning, the 21st, but when the wind did not drop, they immediately started down. It was impossible to climb Everest without oxygen in such weather. Furthermore, their Sherpas were not well. They descended all the way to BC, where the members arrived at 4:00 pm. The Sherpas were very tired when they arrived at the Col, and they became very sick. After they were given oxygen in C4 at the Col, they moved down to C2, where they ate some dal bhat and stopped using oxygen. They, too went down to BC. (This was the expedition's only use of oxygen.) Immediately after their return to BC, the members became involved as communications coordinations in the rescue of Spanish climbers on Everest and Lhotse, including Juanito Oiarzabal from Lhotse. (A formal statement dated 25 May 2011 recounts in detail the efforts needed to rescue members of two Lhotse teams; a copy is attached to the file for Pauner's team, but it does not mention the help needed by Pauner's member Juanito). Pasaban's party did not leave BC until 27 May. Sherpas: Jangbu Sherpa, 19/9/79 (3/6/2036), Kharikhola, Solu, Everest X3, Kangchenjunga 18/5/09, Annapurna I 17/4/10 Mingma Thindu Sherpa, 2/12/82, Makalu vdc, Annapurna I 17/4/10 Pasang Tendi Sherpa, 25/2/88, Kharikhola, Annapurna I 17/4/10
