Route Notes Ms. Sara McGahan and her father, William McGahan, from Georgia, dropped out of the team. William climbed to 6700m on 2 May and then had had enough. Sara, 16 years old, got to 7050m on the 2nd and 9th of May, then lost motivation to climb without her father, and in addition the huge mountain overwhelmed her. The leadership, Hahn and Mallory, took Sara down to BC on 18 May, and she and William decided to go home. They left BC on the 19th and took a helicopter from Pangboche to Kathmandu on the 20th. That left Hahn and Mallory to climb the mountain, which Hahn had done 12 times before but Mallory had never climbed it. On the 18th they went up to C2, on the 20th to C4. At midnight of 20/21 May, they left C4 with Kazi and Tshering Dorje and were on the summit at 6:55 am on 21 May. They were back in C4 at 2:30 pm and in BC on the 22nd.
