Route Notes Summit: 23rd May by Peacock, O'Mahoney, O'Meara, Snook, Sunnucks, Dorje Khatri, Pasang Angjuck, Sonam Dorje, Mingma, Phurba Bhote and Norbu Sherpa at 6:30 am (NST). On 22nd May, summit team together with Dickinson, Green, Owen, Price, Reesby, Robertson, Stewart, Walsh and Williams left C3 at 10:30 pm. The weather was very calm and clear. The summit team spent about 20 minutes on the summit and descended to C2, where they arrived at about 8:30 pm. Dickinson stopped at 2nd Step due to altitude sickness; he was vomiting and returned to C2. Green got to above the 2nd Step and had to stop as he had run out of oxygen. He had taken two half empty oxygen bottles by mistake. A Sherpa brought another bottle for him but it was too late in the day (8:30 am), so he turned back and descended to C3. Owen reached the 2nd Step. He had broken the little bottle on his oxygen mask, which led the bottle to ice up. Due to the problems with his oxygen mask, his fingers were also very cold, so he decided to turn back and descend to ABC. Price reached 8450m, just below the 1st Step. His guide Surendra Kumar Gurung was suffering from high altitude sickness and was helped down by Nima Thundu and Price. They stopped at C3 to recover and eventually went down to C2. Reesby reached 2nd Step. He had problems with his eyesight; his vision was very cloudy. He turned back and descended to C2. Robertson reached the top of the 1st Step, but he suffered from a long term knee problem. The pain got too bad and he decided to turn back; he descended to ABC. Stewart reached the 3rd Step at 8750m at about 9 am and it was too late in the day to carry on. He turned back and descended to C2. Walsh reached the 2nd Step and did not like the look of the climb and was fazed by the exposure. He descended to C2. Williams reached the 2nd Step and collapsed with HACE; he had appeared to be suffering from HACE when he left C3, but he still wanted to go for the summit. Even though he had Sherpas with him he was on his own when Peacock found him on his way down from the summit at about 8400m at 10 am. Peacock short roped him to C3, where they rested before they carried on to C2. Davies reached 7800m on 22nd May; he showed signs of HACE and descended to ABC. Geluk reached C1 on 2nd May. She had pulled a muscle in her back and was in pain. She stayed 2 nights at C1 and descended to ABC. She stayed at ABC for the remainder of the expedition. Goldsmith reached C1 on 23rd April. It was on the acclimatization trip and he did not stay a night. After the avalanche on the North Col, in which the Hungarian climber died, he freaked out and left the expedition on 3rd May. The Grischows (Kenneth reached 6600m and Scott reached North Col) left the expedition on 3rd May. Kenneth was just not able to cope with the terrain and as they came as a father and son team, they decided to abandon the expedition. Reigersmann reached 6500m on 23rd April; he did not feel like climbing the mountain mentally. He left the expedition on 3rd May. O'Meara, Walsh, Ridley, Williams and Snook from C1 to summit or high point to C2, apart from Williams, who used oxygen to Chinese BC. All other members from 7500m to summit or high point to 7800m. Sherpas from C3 to summit or high point to C3.
