Route Notes Summit: On 23rd May, Valencia Corona and Pema Sherpa at 8:15 am. Summit team left C4 at 8 pm on 22nd May. Many people were climbing that morning. There were a few traffic jams on the way. Valencia had problems with his boots and had big blisters, which were painful and slowed him down. They stayed about 20 minutes on the summit. Good views from the summit. On their descent to C4 at about 8300m they bumped into a sick Frenchman who was helped by Willie Benegas and created a traffic jam. They had to wait quite a bit. They arrived at C4 at 2:30 pm and stayed the night there. On 24th, they descended to BC; it took them 12 hours to get down. During the expedition, on 14th May, Valencia went to Kathmandu for treatment for an infection he had on the back of his leg. Peter Hackett of the HRA at BC had cut out the infection on 13th May and told Valencia that it would heal more quickly if he went to Kathmandu. He was treated at CIWEC for four days and returned to BC on 18th May by helicopter.
