| Route Notes | Summit: Hug and Nima Sherpa on 23rd May at 5:30 am. Summit team left C4 at 7 pm on 22nd May. There were lots of people on the fixed ropes. It was a calm night and not too cold. They reached the top at 5:30 am, and descended to C4, where they arrived at 12 noon. As the wind had picked up in the afternoon they got stuck at C4 and stayed the night. On 24th May, they descended to base camp, where they arrived in the late afternoon. Schwoerer reached C4 on 22nd May together wth Hug and Nima Tshering Sherpa. Due to the weather forecast that predicted high winds for that day, he decided not to take the risk. He and his wife had set a wind speed limit of 30k/h for Schwoerer and he promised he would not go up if the winds are supposed to be stronger than this. He rang his wife from C4 and she told him that the winds were going to be higher than 30k/h. He did not stay the night at C4 and left again at about 3 pm. On the way down, he started having problems breathing just before C3. He took Diamox but it did not really help. He got to C2 at about 6:30 pm. The following day he did not feel much better and left C2 to descend to BC at 5 am. He reached base camp at about 12 noon, packed his things and left BC at 2 pm to go to Khumjung where his family was waiting. The main aim of the expedition was to clean up. Schwoerer was also involved in organising the recovery of the dead body of Uwe Gianni Goltz, who was picked up from C2 by two Swiss pilots (one was the Italian climber, Simone Moro). Oxygen: Hug and Nima Tshering used oxygen from C4 to summit to C4 Schwoerer used oxygen from partly from C3 to C4 Sherpas: Nima Sherpa (17/10/68, Lelep-9, Taplejung, no 8000m peak experience |
