Route Notes When the time came for the summit push, only half of the ten-member expedition were still standing. Those five members, Keren, Lavigne, Lopez, Pflugradt and Rippel, set out from C4 between 9:00 and 9:30 pm on 19 May with nine Sherpas: Ang Namgya, Jangbu, Lhakpa Bhote, Mingmar, Ngima, Palden Namgye, Redar Lama Bhote, Sonam Finjo and Tashi Thundu. Rippel turned around at 8200m at 11:00 pm because three toes had become frostbitten; he returned to C4 at 1:00 am of the 20th while the rest of the party went to the summit. Lopez was the first of the member to reach the top, at 8:30 am, Keren was next at 9:00 am, and Lavigne and Pflugradt summited together at 10:00 am. The Sherpas were scattered amongst them. All were back in C4 between 4:00 and 7:00 pm. The last one to arrive was Pflugradt, who had joined in the rescue of the independent Irish climber, Martin Byrne, helping him down a steep section and then handing him on the to some IMG people. Other non-summiting members: Bernier on 17 May climbed to the Geneva Spur below C4, then ot a violent stomach "bug" and dropped down to C3 that day, BC the next day, and left the expedition on the 19th. Evanoff had been to Pheriche for a rest, returned to BC on 12 May. On the 14th, he got 200m above BC, found he had no energy at all, and left the expedition on the 16th. Moser developed a breathing problem climbing to C2 on 24 April, descended to BC that day and left the expedition on the 27th. Smith tore some knee ligaments climbing through the Icefall on 14 April and left the expedition on the 16th.
