Route Notes Berljak insisted that there be one Sherpa climber with each climbing member, but the expedition had enough funds to employ only five Sherpas and to provide oxygen for only five members and five Sherpas. Berljak had to decide which members had the ability to reach the summit and then give them the manpower and bottles of oxygen. As it turned out, one member was too slow to get to the top and return safely, so actually only four members got to the summit (and only three Sherpas did as one went up twice). The first summit party left C4 for the top at 9:30 pm on 18 May. They were Darija and Iris Bostjancic with Lhakpa Nuru and Pemba Tenzing. They reached the summit together at 9:40 am on the 19th and returned to C4 that afternoon. They descended to C2 on 20th and returned to BC on 22nd. The second group left C4 at 8:30 pm on the 20th. They were Sijan, Vrbek, Pasang Norbu, and from C4 Lhakpa Nuru, who had summited with the first party. Simicevic left C4 with them, but was climbing so slowly that she was told to turn back and go down to C2. So two members and two Sherpas went to the top, where they arrived at 5:00 am on the 21st. They were back in C4 at 10:00 am that morning, in C2 on the 22nd and BC on the 23rd. Fixed rope: contributed 200m. Non-summiting members: Berljak (expedition leader) remained in BC throughout the climb. Donlagic (expedition doctor) went no higher than C2. Durek remained in BC except for one very brief trip into the icefall. She concentrated on being responsible for the team's telecommunications. Durin (base camp manager) remained in BC. Hrscanec went to C3 on 10 May, spent a week in C2. The team's limited supply of oxygen had none for her. Levar also went to C3 on 10 May, but for her, too, there was no provision of oxygen. Mijailovic also to C3 on 10 May, went to C2, no oxgyen for her also. Simicevic reached 7400m on 20 May in summit push, was too slow to gain the summit, and descended to C2. Oxygen was used by Darija Bostjancic in C4 to the top to C4, by Iris Bostjancic from C3 to the top to C4, by Sijan, Simicevic and Vrbek from C3 to their high points to C4 by Sijan and Vrbek from C3 by Simicevic. Their Sherpas used it from C4 to the top to C4.
